Viral Dirty Spaghetti is a rich and comforting baked pasta casserole layered with tender spaghetti, a creamy cheese mixture, hearty meat sauce, and plenty of melted cheese. Perfect for family dinners, potlucks, and meal prep, this crowd-pleasing dish combines the best of spaghetti and lasagna.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon salt (for pasta water)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package directions until al dente.
  4. Drain the pasta and set aside.
  5. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
  6. Add the onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
  7. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  8. Add the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  9. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
  10. In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, and 1 cup mozzarella cheese until smooth.
  11. Spread the cooked spaghetti evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  12. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the spaghetti and spread gently.
  13. Pour the meat sauce evenly over the cream layer.
  14. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese on top.
  15. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  16. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  17. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Italian sausage, ground turkey, or ground chicken can be substituted for the ground beef.
  • Add mushrooms, spinach, zucchini, or bell peppers for extra vegetables.
  • Ricotta cheese can replace cottage cheese if preferred.
