Strawberry banana chia seed smoothie with Greek yogurt is a thick, creamy drink packed with sweet fruit flavor and a satisfying texture. Frozen fruit, Greek yogurt, and chia seeds make it a refreshing choice for breakfast or a quick snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 ripe banana, preferably frozen
  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes, optional
  • Fresh strawberries or banana slices for serving, optional

Instructions

  1. Hull the strawberries if using fresh fruit and peel the banana.
  2. Place the strawberries, banana, Greek yogurt, milk, chia seeds, and optional honey or maple syrup in a blender.
  3. Add the vanilla extract if desired.
  4. Blend on high until the fruit and chia seeds are thoroughly incorporated and the smoothie is creamy and smooth.
  5. For a colder and thicker smoothie, add the ice and blend again. When using frozen strawberries and frozen banana, the ice can be reduced or omitted.
  6. Check the consistency and add a splash of milk if the smoothie is too thick.
  7. Taste and add additional sweetener if needed.
  8. Pour into glasses, garnish with fresh strawberries or banana slices if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Frozen strawberries and frozen banana create an especially thick and cold smoothie without requiring much ice.
  • Chia seeds can be added directly to the blender without soaking. They continue absorbing liquid after blending, so the smoothie will gradually thicken.
  • For a high-protein version, add a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder and additional milk as needed.
  • For a strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie, blend in 1–2 tablespoons peanut or almond butter.
  • For a mixed berry chia smoothie, replace some of the strawberries with blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries.
  • For a dairy-free version, use thick plant-based yogurt and soy, almond, oat, or coconut milk. Use maple syrup for a fully vegan variation.
  • For a chocolate strawberry banana smoothie, add 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder before blending.
  • To make the smoothie thicker, use frozen fruit, reduce the milk, add more Greek yogurt, or let the finished smoothie sit briefly so the chia seeds can absorb additional liquid.
  • Store leftovers in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Shake or stir thoroughly and add milk if the smoothie becomes too thick.
  • Leftover smoothie can be frozen in ice cube trays and later blended with a little milk or yogurt.
