Salmon Burgers are a flavorful and nutritious alternative to traditional burgers, made with fresh salmon, herbs, and seasonings for juicy, tender patties. Perfect for weeknight dinners, meal prep, or summer cookouts, they pair beautifully with a variety of toppings and sauces.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh salmon fillets, skin removed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 hamburger buns (optional)
  • Lettuce, tomato slices, red onion slices, avocado, tartar sauce, and lemon wedges for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the salmon into small pieces or pulse briefly in a food processor, leaving some texture.
  2. Transfer the salmon to a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the breadcrumbs, egg, green onions, garlic, parsley or dill, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Mix gently until combined.
  5. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
  6. Refrigerate the patties for 15 to 20 minutes to help them firm up.
  7. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat or preheat a grill.
  8. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  10. Assemble the burgers with your preferred toppings and sauces.
  11. Serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Chilling the patties before cooking helps prevent them from falling apart.
  • Canned salmon can be substituted for fresh salmon if desired.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free breadcrumbs or almond flour.
  • Serve on buns or over a salad for a lighter option.
  • Store cooked burgers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
