Ingredients

  • 4 small cucumbers, sliced into spears or rounds
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup white vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 4 sprigs fresh dill
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • Optional: red pepper flakes
  • Optional: mustard seeds

  • Optional: coriander seeds

Instructions

  1. Wash the cucumbers thoroughly and slice them into spears or rounds.
  2. Place the cucumbers into clean glass jars.
  3. Add the garlic cloves, fresh dill, peppercorns, and any optional spices.
  4. In a saucepan, combine the water, vinegar, salt, and sugar.
  5. Heat gently while stirring until the salt and sugar dissolve completely.
  6. Remove the brine from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  7. Pour the brine over the cucumbers until fully submerged.
  8. Seal the jars tightly.
  9. Allow the jars to cool completely before refrigerating.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving for the best flavor.
  11. The pickles become more flavorful after several days.

Notes

  • Add sliced jalapeños or red pepper flakes for spicy dill pickles.
  • Apple cider vinegar creates a milder and slightly sweeter flavor.
  • Keep cucumbers fully submerged in the brine for best freshness and crunch.
  • Use fresh, firm cucumbers for the crispiest texture.
  • Store refrigerated for up to 1 month using clean utensils when serving.
