Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices
  • Pickles
  • Cheese slices
  • Ketchup (optional condiment)
  • Mustard (optional condiment)
  • Mayonnaise (optional condiment)
  • Barbecue sauce (optional condiment)

Instructions

  1. Place the ground beef in a large bowl.

  3. Mix gently until just combined without overworking the meat.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly larger than the buns.
  5. Press a small indentation into the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  6. Heat a skillet, grill, or griddle over medium-high heat.
  7. Cook the patties for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until cooked to your preferred doneness.
  8. If using cheese, place slices on the patties during the final minute of cooking and cover briefly to melt.
  9. Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired.
  10. Assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and condiments.
  11. Serve immediately while warm.
