Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes are rich, buttery, and incredibly creamy, making them the perfect side dish for holiday feasts or everyday dinners. Their naturally buttery flavor and velvety texture create comforting mashed potatoes with just a handful of ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Yukon Gold potatoes
  • Unsalted butter
  • Heavy cream or whole milk
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Garlic, roasted or minced (optional)
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Fresh chives or parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel the Yukon Gold potatoes if desired, or leave some or all of the skins on for extra texture.
  2. Cut the potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
  3. Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold, salted water.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a steady simmer.
  5. Cook for 15–20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  6. Drain thoroughly and return the potatoes to the hot pot for 1–2 minutes to evaporate excess moisture.
  7. Warm the butter and cream together until the butter is melted.
  8. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
  9. Gradually stir in the warm butter and cream mixture.
  10. Add the sour cream and garlic if using, then season with salt and black pepper.
  11. Stir gently until creamy and well combined.
  12. Garnish with fresh chives or parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use a potato ricer for the smoothest texture.
  • Do not overmix to avoid gummy mashed potatoes.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze for up to 2 months and reheat with a splash of milk or cream.
  • Add roasted garlic, cheese, or fresh herbs for extra flavor.
