Wonton Soup is a comforting Chinese-inspired dish featuring delicate dumplings filled with seasoned meat served in a warm savory broth with fresh vegetables. Light yet satisfying, this homemade soup is perfect for cozy lunches or dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground pork or chicken
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup bok choy or spinach
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground pork or chicken, chopped green onions, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and grated ginger.
  2. Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  3. Moisten the edges with water and fold the wrapper over the filling, sealing tightly.
  4. Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil.
  5. Carefully add the wontons and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until they float and are cooked through.
  6. In another pot, heat the chicken broth with soy sauce and sesame oil.
  7. Add bok choy or spinach and simmer briefly until tender.
  8. Remove the cooked wontons from the boiling water and place them into serving bowls.
  9. Ladle the hot broth and vegetables over the wontons.
  10. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve warm.

Notes

  • Store-bought wonton wrappers work perfectly and save preparation time.
  • Seal the wonton edges tightly with water to prevent opening during cooking.
  • Uncooked wontons freeze well for up to 2 months and can be cooked directly from frozen.
  • Add noodles for a heartier soup meal.
  • Chili oil or red pepper flakes can be added for a spicy variation.
