White Chocolate Matcha Cookies are soft, chewy cookies with crisp edges, packed with creamy white chocolate and the delicate earthy flavor of matcha. They’re an easy, elegant treat that’s perfect for holidays, tea time, or everyday baking.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate
  • Flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, matcha powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream the softened butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Fold in the white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate.
  7. Scoop portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  8. Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers remain soft.
  9. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for several minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt while warm if desired.

Notes

  • Culinary-grade matcha provides vibrant color and balanced flavor for baking.
  • Use softened, not melted, butter to help prevent excessive spreading.
  • If the dough feels too soft, chill it for 20 to 30 minutes before baking.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze baked cookies or unbaked dough balls for up to 3 months.
