Watermelon smoothie is a cold, refreshing drink made with juicy watermelon, creamy yogurt, and bright lime juice. It blends together in minutes for an easy fruity drink that is especially refreshing on warm days.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups seedless watermelon, cubed and chilled
  • 1/2 cup plain or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 4–6 fresh mint leaves, optional
  • Pinch of salt, optional
  • Fresh watermelon or mint for serving, optional

Instructions

  1. Cut the watermelon into cubes and remove any visible seeds.
  2. For an especially cold and thick smoothie, thoroughly chill the watermelon or freeze some of the cubes beforehand.
  3. Place the watermelon, yogurt, lime juice, honey or maple syrup, and optional mint in a blender.
  4. Blend until the watermelon mixture is completely smooth.
  5. Add the ice and blend again until the smoothie is cold and slightly frothy.
  6. Taste and add additional lime juice or sweetener if needed.
  7. If the smoothie is too thick, blend in a small amount of cold water or coconut water. If it is too thin, add more frozen watermelon and blend again.
  8. Pour into glasses, garnish with fresh watermelon or mint if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Very ripe watermelon may be sweet enough that no additional honey or maple syrup is needed.
  • For watermelon strawberry smoothie, add about 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries.
  • For watermelon banana smoothie, add half of a frozen banana for a thicker and creamier texture.
  • For watermelon mint smoothie, omit the yogurt and blend the watermelon with fresh mint, lime juice, and ice.
  • For watermelon coconut smoothie, use coconut yogurt and add a splash of coconut water.
  • For an extra-creamy smoothie, use thick Greek yogurt and frozen watermelon and reduce or omit the ice.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut, almond, soy, or another plant-based yogurt.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. If the smoothie separates while sitting, stir or shake it thoroughly.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
  • Leftover smoothie can be frozen in ice cube trays and blended later with fresh watermelon or yogurt.
