A creamy golden smoothie blending tangy kefir with banana, tropical fruit, turmeric, ginger, and warming spices. It is refreshing, naturally fruity, and ready in just minutes.

Ingredients

  • Plain kefir
  • Ripe banana
  • Frozen mango or pineapple chunks
  • Ground turmeric or fresh turmeric
  • Fresh ginger
  • Honey or maple syrup, optional
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground black pepper
  • Ice cubes, optional

Instructions

  1. Peel the banana and cut it into chunks. If using fresh ginger or fresh turmeric, peel and cut them into small pieces.
  2. Pour the kefir into a blender. Add the banana, frozen mango or pineapple, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and a small pinch of black pepper. Add honey or maple syrup if additional sweetness is desired.
  3. Blend on high speed for 30 to 60 seconds, or until completely smooth and creamy with no pieces of fruit or ginger remaining.
  4. Check the consistency. Add another splash of kefir and blend again if the smoothie is too thick. For a thicker and colder smoothie, add ice cubes or additional frozen fruit.
  5. Pour into glasses and serve immediately. Garnish with a light sprinkle of cinnamon or turmeric if desired.

Notes

  • Frozen banana, mango, or pineapple creates a thicker, colder smoothie and can eliminate the need for ice.
  • Fresh turmeric can replace ground turmeric. Start with a small piece and add more to taste.
  • For a citrus variation, add a splash of fresh orange juice and slightly reduce the kefir to maintain a thick consistency.
  • For a green turmeric smoothie, blend in a handful of baby spinach.
  • Use very ripe banana or sweet mango for natural sweetness before adding honey or maple syrup.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. Shake, stir, or briefly re-blend before serving.
