A simple yet satisfying tomato sandwich made with fresh tomatoes, bread, and optional seasonings, perfect for a light lunch or snack.

Ingredients

  1. 2 slices of your favorite bread (white, whole wheat, sourdough, or a hearty baguette)
    1 large, ripe tomato, sliced
    12 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
    Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh basil or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Toast the bread (optional): If you prefer a little crunch, lightly toast the bread slices to your desired level of crispness. Alternatively, you can leave the bread soft for a more traditional sandwich.

  1. Prepare the tomatoes: Slice the tomato into thick, even slices. You can remove the seeds if you prefer, but it’s not necessary.
  2. Assemble the sandwich: Spread mayonnaise (or your preferred spread) onto one or both slices of bread. Layer the tomato slices on one slice of bread.
  3. Season the tomatoes: Sprinkle salt and pepper over the tomatoes to enhance their natural sweetness. If you like, add some fresh herbs like basil or parsley for extra flavor.
  4. Complete the sandwich: Top with the second slice of bread, press gently to hold everything together, and cut the sandwich in half for easy eating.
  5. Serve: Enjoy your tomato sandwich immediately, or wrap it up for a picnic or lunch on the go!

Notes

  1. Add cheese: A slice of mozzarella, cheddar, or Swiss cheese can be added for extra flavor and creaminess.
  2. Add avocado: For a richer sandwich, spread some mashed avocado on the bread before adding the tomatoes.
  3. Herb twist: Add fresh basil, oregano, or thyme to complement the tomatoes for an Italian-inspired flavor.
  4. Spicy version: Add a slice of jalapeño, red pepper flakes, or a drizzle of hot sauce for a spicy kick.
  5. Grilled version: Grill the sandwich for a crispy, warm twist on the classic.
