Sweet Dinner Rolls are soft, fluffy bread rolls with a lightly sweet flavor and tender texture, perfect for serving alongside dinner, holiday meals, or with butter and jam.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (optional topping)
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
  9. Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Bake for 18–20 minutes until the rolls are golden brown.
  12. Brush the warm rolls with melted butter and drizzle with honey if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
  • Knead the dough well to develop gluten for soft and fluffy rolls.
  • Instant yeast can be used instead of active dry yeast and mixed directly with the dry ingredients.
  • Store rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Freeze baked rolls for up to 2 months and reheat before serving.
