Ingredients
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup warm milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp melted butter (optional topping)
1 tbsp honey (optional topping)
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
Mix until a soft dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake for 18–20 minutes until the rolls are golden brown.
Brush the warm rolls with melted butter and drizzle with honey if desired before serving.
Notes
Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
Knead the dough well to develop gluten for soft and fluffy rolls.
Instant yeast can be used instead of active dry yeast and mixed directly with the dry ingredients.
Store rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
Freeze baked rolls for up to 2 months and reheat before serving.
