  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk, if needed
  • Sprinkles or colored sugar for decorating (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and milk until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix just until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop or roll the dough into balls, place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets, and gently flatten each one.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are just set but not browned.
  8. Cool the cookies completely on a wire rack.
  9. Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth, then gradually mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Add milk as needed for a spreadable consistency.
  10. Spread or pipe the frosting onto the cooled cookies and decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar if desired.
