Strawberry Malts are thick, creamy malt-shop drinks blending ripe strawberries, vanilla ice cream, milk, and malted milk powder. The sweet berry flavor and toasted malt make an easy nostalgic dessert drink ready in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup malted milk powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar or honey, optional
  • Whipped cream, optional
  • Fresh strawberries, for garnish, optional
  • Malted milk powder, for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries thoroughly, remove the green tops, and cut larger berries into halves or quarters.
  2. Place the strawberries and milk in a blender and blend briefly until the fruit begins to break down.
  3. Add the vanilla ice cream, malted milk powder, and vanilla extract.
  4. Blend just until smooth and creamy, avoiding excessive blending that could melt the ice cream and thin the malt.
  5. Taste and add granulated sugar or honey if the strawberries need additional sweetness.
  6. If the malt is too thick, add a small splash of milk and blend briefly. If it is too thin, add another scoop of ice cream.
  7. Immediately pour the Strawberry Malts into chilled glasses.
  8. Top with whipped cream, a fresh strawberry, or a light sprinkle of malted milk powder if desired and serve cold.

Notes

  • Use ripe, fragrant strawberries for the strongest natural fruit flavor and add sweetener only if needed.
  • Frozen strawberries can replace fresh berries and will produce a colder, thicker malt.
  • For Chocolate Strawberry Malts, add chocolate syrup or cocoa powder before blending.
  • For Strawberry Banana Malts, add half of a ripe banana for extra sweetness and a thicker texture.
  • Raspberries or blueberries can be blended with the strawberries for a mixed-berry variation.
  • Use less milk or add more ice cream or frozen strawberries for a thicker malt.
  • Serve immediately for the thickest and creamiest texture.
  • Leftovers can be frozen and later softened slightly before blending again with a splash of milk.
