Strawberry Danish Hearts are flaky, buttery puff pastry treats filled with a creamy vanilla cream cheese mixture and sweet strawberry filling. Their charming heart shape makes them perfect for brunch, holidays, or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, diced
  • 2 tbsp strawberry jam
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • Fresh strawberry slices, optional garnish
  • Powdered sugar, optional garnish
  • Mint leaves, optional garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, beat together the cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, stir together the diced strawberries, strawberry jam, and cornstarch.
  4. Lightly roll out the puff pastry and cut it into heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  5. Score a smaller heart inside each pastry without cutting all the way through the dough.
  6. Spread a small amount of the cream cheese mixture inside the scored area.
  7. Spoon the strawberry filling over the cream cheese layer.
  8. Brush the pastry edges with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  10. Allow the Danish hearts to cool for about 10 minutes.
  11. Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth to make the glaze.
  12. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled pastries and garnish with fresh strawberry slices, powdered sugar, or mint leaves if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Keep the puff pastry cold until ready to bake for the flakiest results.
  • If using frozen strawberries, thaw and drain them well before making the filling.
  • Substitute raspberry or blueberry preserves for a delicious variation.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer to restore crispness; avoid microwaving.
  • Baked pastries can be frozen for up to 2 months and reheated before serving.
