Steak and Cheese Croissants combine tender, juicy steak with melted cheese inside buttery, flaky croissants for a rich and satisfying sandwich. Perfect for lunch, dinner, or game day, this recipe delivers steakhouse flavor with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 4 large croissants, sliced in half
  • 1 pound sirloin, ribeye, or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 8 slices provolone, Swiss, or mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the steak with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Sauté the onions until softened and lightly caramelized. Add the mushrooms if using and cook until tender, then remove the vegetables from the skillet.
  4. Cook the steak for 2–4 minutes until browned and just cooked through.
  5. Return the onions and mushrooms to the skillet and stir to combine.
  6. Slice the croissants in half and lightly toast if desired.
  7. Place two slices of cheese on the bottom half of each croissant.
  8. Spoon the hot steak mixture over the cheese so it begins to melt.
  9. Close each sandwich with the top half of the croissant.
  10. Serve immediately while warm, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Sirloin, ribeye, or flank steak all work well when sliced thinly.
  • Add sautéed bell peppers, spinach, or jalapeños for extra flavor and texture.
  • Spread garlic aioli, horseradish sauce, or Dijon mustard inside the croissants for added richness.
  • Finish assembled sandwiches in the oven or air fryer for a few minutes to melt the cheese completely.
  • Store the steak filling separately from the croissants in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat the filling before assembling the sandwiches for the best texture.
