This Spinach Puff Pastry Christmas Tree is a festive, flaky appetizer filled with creamy spinach and melted cheese. It’s an impressive yet easy holiday recipe that’s perfect for Christmas parties, family gatherings, and seasonal entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 2 frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, chopped spinach, garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. Unfold one sheet of puff pastry and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Spread the spinach mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top and gently press the edges to seal.
  6. Cut the pastry into the shape of a Christmas tree, using the trimmed pieces to form a trunk if needed.
  7. Slice branches on both sides of the tree, leaving the center intact, then twist each branch several times.
  8. Whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash, then brush it over the entire pastry.
  9. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning, if desired.
  10. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  11. Cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  • Add crumbled feta cheese for a tangy flavor.
  • Mix cooked bacon or diced ham into the filling for a heartier appetizer.
  • Stir in chopped sun-dried tomatoes for extra color and richness.
  • Substitute part of the cream cheese with ricotta for a lighter filling.
  • Sprinkle additional Parmesan over the pastry before baking for an extra crispy finish.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven or air fryer to restore the flaky texture.
  • Freeze baked leftovers for up to 2 months and reheat directly from frozen.
