This Southern Cream Cheese Ball is a classic appetizer made with creamy cheeses, savory seasonings, and a crunchy pecan coating. It’s an easy make-ahead recipe that’s perfect for holidays, parties, potlucks, and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese until well blended.
  2. Stir in the green onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.
  3. Cover the mixture and refrigerate for about 1 hour until firm enough to shape.
  4. Spread the chopped pecans on a large plate.
  5. Shape the chilled cheese mixture into a ball using clean hands or a spatula.
  6. Roll the cheese ball in the chopped pecans until evenly coated.
  7. Transfer to a serving plate and refrigerate for an additional 30 minutes before serving.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve with crackers, pretzels, toasted baguette slices, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • Add cooked crumbled bacon, diced jalapeños, or dried cranberries for delicious variations.
  • Substitute walnuts or almonds for the pecans if preferred.
  • Use pepper Jack cheese in place of some of the cheddar for extra flavor.
  • Store tightly wrapped or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze the cheese ball without the pecan coating for up to 1 month. Thaw overnight, then coat with pecans before serving.
