This sour cream lasagna puts a rich, creamy twist on the classic with layers of seasoned meat sauce, tender pasta, and plenty of melted cheese. It’s a comforting, family-friendly meal that’s perfect for dinner or making ahead.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 9 lasagna noodles, cooked
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Extra Parmesan cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef and diced onion in a large skillet until the beef is browned. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the garlic, marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, cottage cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and parsley until smooth.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Arrange three lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the sour cream mixture on top, followed by meat sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers two more times, finishing with the remaining mozzarella cheese and extra Parmesan.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  10. Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Substitute Italian sausage for a richer flavor or ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • Add spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini between the layers for extra vegetables.
  • Ricotta cheese can be used instead of cottage cheese.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • For best results, thaw frozen lasagna overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
