Smoked Mushrooms are a savory side dish featuring tender mushrooms infused with rich smoky flavor, butter, garlic, and seasonings. Perfect for barbecues, cookouts, and family dinners, they pair beautifully with grilled meats and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • pounds whole baby bella or cremini mushrooms
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C).
  2. Clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel and trim the stems if needed.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, olive oil, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika.
  4. Add the mushrooms and toss until evenly coated.
  5. Transfer the mushrooms to a grill-safe pan, cast-iron skillet, or aluminum foil pan.
  6. Place the pan in the smoker.
  7. Smoke for 1½ to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  8. Continue cooking until the mushrooms are tender and have absorbed the smoky flavor.
  9. Remove from the smoker.
  10. Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Baby bella, cremini, button, and portobello mushrooms all work well for smoking.
  • Hickory, oak, cherry, and pecan wood provide excellent smoky flavor.
  • Whole mushrooms retain moisture better than sliced mushrooms during smoking.
  • Add Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, or bacon for additional flavor variations.
  • These mushrooms reheat well and are great for meal prep.
  • Serve alongside steaks, burgers, barbecue ribs, pork chops, or grilled vegetables.
