Smash Burger Tacos combine the crispy, caramelized crust of a smash burger with the convenience of a taco. Loaded with melted cheese, fresh toppings, and a creamy burger sauce, these tacos are a fun and flavorful twist on two classic favorites.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 8 small flour tortillas
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 16 pickle slices

Instructions

  1. Combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, and garlic powder in a small bowl to make the burger sauce.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions.
  3. Place a tortilla on a clean work surface and spread a thin layer of beef evenly over one side.
  4. Season the beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Heat a large cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  6. Place the tortilla beef-side down onto the hot cooking surface.
  7. Press firmly with a spatula for several seconds to create a crispy crust.
  8. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the beef develops a deep golden-brown crust.
  9. Flip the tortilla and immediately place a slice of American cheese on the cooked beef.
  10. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the tortilla is lightly crisp and the cheese has melted.
  11. Remove from the skillet and repeat with the remaining tortillas.
  12. Top each taco with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, diced onion, pickle slices, and burger sauce before serving.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for a lighter option.
  • Add crispy bacon for extra flavor.
  • Use cheddar, pepper Jack, or Swiss cheese instead of American cheese.
  • Add jalapeños for a spicy variation.
  • Top with sautéed mushrooms and onions for a burger-inspired twist.
  • Mix hot sauce into the burger sauce for extra heat.
  • Store toppings and sauce separately and refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days.
