These Small Batch Baked Chocolate Donuts are soft, moist, and packed with rich chocolate flavor. Baked instead of fried, they are easy to make and perfect for a quick breakfast, snack, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (optional chocolate glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional chocolate glaze)
  • 12 tablespoons milk (optional chocolate glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 6-cavity mini donut pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir until the batter is smooth and no dry streaks remain.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag or zip-top bag with the corner snipped off.
  6. Pipe the batter into the prepared donut cavities, filling each about three-quarters full.
  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly touched.
  8. Cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  9. If making the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and milk until smooth.
  10. Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze and allow it to set before serving.

Notes

  • Add mini chocolate chips to the batter for extra chocolate flavor.
  • Dust with powdered sugar if you prefer not to use the glaze.
  • A pinch of espresso powder enhances the chocolate taste.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Freeze unglazed donuts for up to 2 months and thaw before serving.
