Slow-Cooker Green Beans are a simple, flavorful side dish that combines tender green beans with savory seasonings and a rich broth, making them perfect for holidays or casual weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  1. 2 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed
    1/2 cup onion, chopped
    2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth for a vegetarian option)
1/4 cup olive oil or unsalted butter
1 tbsp soy sauce (optional for added depth)
    1 tsp dried thyme
    1 tsp dried basil
    Salt and pepper, to taste
1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Wash and trim the green beans, cutting off the ends.

  1. In the slow cooker, combine the green beans, chopped onion, and minced garlic.
  2. Pour in the chicken broth and olive oil (or butter), then add the soy sauce, thyme, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir to coat the green beans evenly with the seasonings and liquid.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, until the green beans are tender.
  4. Once done, taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. If desired, sprinkle with sliced almonds for a touch of crunch.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  1. For an extra savory flavor, add cooked and crumbled bacon to the slow cooker.
  2. Add red pepper flakes or hot sauce for a spicy version.
  3. For a smoky twist, add smoked paprika or smoked sausage slices.
  4. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat with a splash of broth or water to maintain moisture.
