Ingredients
1 bunch Swiss chard
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
Wash the Swiss chard thoroughly and pat it dry.
Separate the stems from the leaves. Chop the stems into small pieces and roughly chop the leaves.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the chopped stems and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly softened.
Stir in the garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the chopped leaves and toss to coat with the oil and aromatics.
Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the leaves are wilted and tender.
Season with salt and black pepper, then drizzle with lemon juice if desired.
Serve warm as a side dish.
Notes
Add sliced onions for extra sweetness and depth of flavor.
Toss in toasted nuts like pine nuts or almonds for added texture.
Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top for a savory finish.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently.
A splash of balsamic vinegar can enhance the flavor with a tangy note.
