Ingredients
6 fresh tomatoes, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves
1–2 jalapeño or serrano peppers
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cumin (optional)
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1 tbsp lime juice
Instructions
Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add tomatoes, onion, garlic, and peppers.
Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
Remove from heat and cool slightly.
Blend mixture until smooth or desired consistency.
Return to pan and simmer for 5–10 minutes to thicken.
Stir in salt, pepper, cumin, and lime juice.
Remove from heat and mix in cilantro.
Cool before serving or store for later use.
Notes
Roast tomatoes and peppers for a deeper smoky flavor.
Adjust spice level by changing type or amount of peppers.
