Ricotta Meatballs are tender, juicy meatballs made with creamy ricotta cheese for an incredibly soft texture and rich flavor. They pair perfectly with marinara sauce, pasta, or crusty bread, making them a comforting Italian-inspired meal for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef, ground pork, or a combination of both
  • Whole milk ricotta cheese
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Egg
  • Garlic, minced
  • Onion, finely grated or minced
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Marinara sauce (for serving or simmering)
  • Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking the meatballs.
  2. Combine the ground meat, ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the mixture.
  4. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs.
  5. Arrange the meatballs on a lightly greased baking sheet or prepare a skillet with olive oil.
  6. Bake until lightly browned and cooked through, or pan-sear the meatballs until fully cooked.
  7. Warm the marinara sauce in a large saucepan.
  8. Transfer the cooked meatballs to the sauce and simmer for several minutes to absorb the flavors.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
  10. Serve hot over pasta, with crusty bread, or alongside roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Combine ground beef with ground pork or Italian sausage for a richer flavor.
  • Add fresh basil, oregano, or crushed red pepper flakes for extra seasoning.
  • Serve with creamy sauces instead of marinara for a delicious variation.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze cooked meatballs with or without sauce for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat gently in simmering marinara sauce or in the microwave until heated through.
