Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 egg, beaten, for egg wash
Everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, or other toppings, as desired
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the Greek yogurt and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently knead until relatively smooth. Add only enough additional flour to prevent excessive sticking.
Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a rope and connect the ends to form a bagel, or shape each portion into a ball and make a hole through the center.
Arrange the bagels on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg.
Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, or another desired topping.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the bagels are puffed and golden brown.
Let the bagels cool for several minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use thick Greek yogurt for a dough that is easier to handle. If the yogurt is particularly wet, add a small amount of additional flour as needed.
Avoid adding excessive flour while kneading, as this can make the finished bagels dry and dense.
Self-rising flour can replace the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
For extra protein, replace a small portion of the flour with unflavored protein powder and adjust the yogurt or flour as needed to maintain a soft dough.
For cheesy bagels, mix shredded cheddar or Parmesan into the dough and sprinkle additional cheese on top.
For a sweet variation, omit savory toppings, add cinnamon to the dough, and serve with nut butter, fruit, or honey.
Store cooled bagels in an airtight container at room temperature for 1–2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
For longer storage, slice the bagels and freeze them in an airtight freezer-safe container or bag.
Reheat sliced bagels in a toaster until warm and lightly crisp.
For air frying, cook at approximately 350°F (175°C) until puffed, golden, and cooked through, checking early for doneness.
