Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, cold and cubed
  • Optional: whipped cream
  • Optional: vanilla yogurt
  • Optional: caramel sauce
  • Optional: chopped pecans
  • Optional: vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Peel and dice the apples into small pieces.
  3. In a skillet or saucepan, cook the apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and butter until softened, about 10 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture until crumbly.
  6. Spread the crumble mixture onto a baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring once, until golden brown.
  7. Allow the crumble topping to cool slightly.
  8. Layer the apple filling and crumble topping into small jars.
  9. Repeat the layers until the jars are filled.
  10. Add optional toppings such as whipped cream or caramel sauce before serving if desired.

  • Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Fuji, and Gala apples work well for this recipe.
  • Store the crumble topping separately for the crunchiest texture if preparing ahead.
