Popcorn Chicken is a crispy and flavorful bite-sized chicken dish with a crunchy seasoned coating and juicy center. Perfect for snacking, appetizers, or quick family meals, these golden chicken bites are delicious with your favorite dipping sauces.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken breasts into small bite-sized pieces.
  2. Place the chicken in a bowl with buttermilk and let marinate for at least 20 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F.
  5. Remove the chicken pieces from the buttermilk and coat them thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  6. Fry the chicken in batches for about 4–5 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked.
  7. Transfer the cooked chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs instead of breasts for extra juicy popcorn chicken.
  • For a spicy version, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the marinade.
  • Air fry at 400°F for 10–12 minutes for a lighter option.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to keep the coating crispy.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best texture.
