Pesto Pasta is a fresh, vibrant, and flavorful dish that combines tender pasta with rich basil pesto, Parmesan cheese, and simple ingredients for an easy meal ready in minutes. It’s perfect for busy weeknights, quick lunches, or elegant dinners.

Ingredients

  • Pasta (penne, fusilli, spaghetti, linguine, or farfalle)
  • Basil pesto
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Garlic, minced (optional)
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Pine nuts, toasted (optional)
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Cook the pasta according to the package directions until al dente.
  3. Reserve about 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta.
  4. Return the pasta to the pot or transfer it to a large serving bowl.
  5. Add the basil pesto and toss until the pasta is evenly coated.
  6. Add a little reserved pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce and create a silky consistency.
  7. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and olive oil.
  8. Add the cherry tomatoes, minced garlic, or lemon juice if using.
  9. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
  10. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, toasted pine nuts, and extra Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

  • Use homemade or store-bought pesto.
  • Reserve pasta water to help the sauce coat the noodles smoothly.
  • Add grilled chicken, shrimp, tofu, or chickpeas for extra protein.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat with a splash of water or olive oil.
  • Delicious served warm or chilled as a pasta salad.
