A Peanut Butter and Mayo Sandwich is an old-fashioned American combination of rich, nutty peanut butter and creamy, tangy mayonnaise on soft bread. This nostalgic no-cook sandwich takes only minutes to prepare and can be customized with sweet or crunchy additions.

Ingredients

  • Sliced white or sandwich bread
  • Creamy peanut butter
  • Mayonnaise
  • Crunchy peanut butter, optional
  • Banana slices, optional
  • Lettuce, optional
  • Honey, optional
  • Pinch of salt, optional

Instructions

  1. Place two slices of bread on a clean work surface.
  2. Spread a generous, even layer of peanut butter over one slice of bread.
  3. Spread a thinner layer of mayonnaise over the second slice, adding more if desired.
  4. If desired, add banana slices, crisp lettuce, or a small drizzle of honey for additional flavor and texture.
  5. Place the two slices together with the peanut butter and mayonnaise facing inward.
  6. Gently press the sandwich together so the fillings spread evenly toward the edges.
  7. Cut the sandwich in half or diagonally and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy peanut butter for additional texture.
  • Add thin banana slices for extra sweetness and a more substantial sandwich.
  • Crisp lettuce adds freshness and crunch while balancing the richness of the spreads.
  • A small drizzle of honey creates a sweeter contrast with the tangy mayonnaise.
  • For a crispier sandwich, toast the bread separately before adding the peanut butter and mayonnaise.
  • Start with a thin layer of mayonnaise and increase it gradually according to taste.
  • For the best texture, serve immediately after assembling.
  • If preparing ahead, wrap tightly, refrigerate, and consume within 1 day.
  • Freezing the assembled sandwich is not recommended because mayonnaise can change texture after thawing.
