Pasta Method Rice is a simple and foolproof way to cook fluffy, tender rice by boiling it like pasta and draining the excess water. This easy method prevents sticky or mushy rice and works perfectly for everyday meals and meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 6 to 8 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Optional butter or olive oil for serving

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil.
  2. Add salt to the boiling water.
  3. Stir in the rice and reduce the heat slightly to maintain a gentle boil.
  4. Cook uncovered for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Check the rice for doneness around the 10-minute mark. The grains should be tender but not mushy.
  6. Drain the rice in a fine-mesh strainer.
  7. Let the rice rest in the strainer for 1–2 minutes to release steam.
  8. Return the rice to the warm pot if desired and fluff gently with a fork.
  9. Serve warm with butter, olive oil, or preferred seasonings.

Notes

  • Add fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, or dill for extra flavor.
  • Stir in garlic butter for a richer variation.
  • Add lemon zest and juice for a bright citrus version.
  • Use the same method for brown rice with a longer cooking time.
  • Add whole spices like bay leaves or cardamom to the water for aromatic rice.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze cooked rice for up to 2 months.
