Creamy, make-ahead overnight oats made with Greek yogurt, milk, and frozen berries that thaw in the fridge into a naturally sweet, jammy swirl. No cooking required, just stir, chill, and grab a jar in the morning. Ready in 5 minutes of prep plus overnight chilling.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or honey, plus more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries), divided

Topping Ideas:

  • Extra yogurt
  • Fresh berries
  • Sliced almonds or chopped nuts
  • Shredded coconut
  • A drizzle of nut butter

Instructions

  1. In a 16-ounce (475 ml) jar or container with a lid, combine the oats, Greek yogurt, milk, chia seeds, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Stir well until no dry pockets remain.
  2. Stir in half of the frozen berries, gently crushing a few against the side of the jar to release their juices.
  3. Top with the remaining frozen berries. There is no need to thaw them first.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or overnight, until the oats are soft and the berries have thawed.
  5. In the morning, stir well. If the oats are too thick, add a splash of milk to loosen.
  6. Top with extra yogurt, nuts, or fresh berries and enjoy cold, or microwave for 1 to 2 minutes if you prefer it warm.

Notes

  • Oats: Use old-fashioned rolled oats for the best chewy texture. Quick oats work but will be softer. Steel-cut oats are not suitable.
  • Frozen berries: They act like built-in ice packs and release natural sweetness and color as they thaw. Mixed berries or blueberries work especially well.
  • Consistency: For thinner oats, add 2 to 3 tablespoons more milk. For thicker oats, reduce the milk slightly or add another teaspoon of chia seeds.
  • Sweetness: Berries vary in tartness, so taste in the morning and add a little extra maple syrup or honey if needed.
  • Meal prep: Multiply the recipe by the number of jars you need. Make up to 4 jars at once and store in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Dairy-free and vegan: Use coconut or soy yogurt, plant-based milk, and maple syrup.
  • Gluten-free: Use certified gluten-free oats.
  • Protein boost: Stir in 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder and add 2 extra tablespoons of milk.
