Oven Baked Chili Cheese Dogs combine juicy hot dogs, soft buns, hearty chili, and melted cheddar cheese in one crowd-pleasing dish. Baked until hot and bubbly, they’re perfect for game days, parties, and easy family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 2 cups prepared chili
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Diced onions (optional)
  • Sliced jalapeños (optional)
  • Chopped green onions (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Crushed tortilla chips (optional)
  • Pickled jalapeños (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Arrange the hot dog buns in the baking dish.
  4. Place one hot dog inside each bun.
  5. Spoon the chili evenly over the hot dogs.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over the chili.
  7. Brush the tops of the buns with melted butter.
  8. Cover loosely with foil.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and continue baking for 5–10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes.
  12. Add any desired toppings.
  13. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Canned or homemade chili both work well in this recipe.
  • Lightly toasting the buns before assembling can help prevent sogginess.
  • Cheddar cheese is traditional, but Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, or pepper jack are excellent options.
