Oven Baked Chicken Parmesan and Spaghetti is a comforting Italian-American classic featuring crispy baked breaded chicken topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella, served over perfectly cooked spaghetti. It’s an easy, family-friendly meal that delivers classic flavors with less mess than frying.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or cooking spray
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella or shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley or basil, for garnish
  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • Salt, for the pasta water
  • Extra marinara sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and lightly grease or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness.
  3. Whisk together the eggs and milk in one shallow bowl.
  4. In another bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Dip each chicken breast into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Arrange the breaded chicken on the prepared baking sheet and lightly brush or spray with olive oil.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes.
  8. Remove the chicken from the oven, top each piece with marinara sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Return to the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  10. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente, then drain.
  11. Serve the Chicken Parmesan over the spaghetti with extra marinara sauce if desired.
  12. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil before serving.

Notes

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for an extra crispy coating.
  • Substitute boneless chicken thighs for a juicier variation.
  • Add provolone cheese along with the mozzarella for extra richness.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free spaghetti and breadcrumbs if preferred.
  • Add crushed red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce for extra heat.
  • Serve with zucchini noodles instead of spaghetti for a lower-carb option.
  • Store leftovers in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze the cooked chicken for up to 3 months and reheat in the oven to maintain a crisp coating.
