Orange smoothie with kefir milk is a creamy, refreshing blend of juicy oranges, tangy kefir, banana, and vanilla. Frozen banana adds natural sweetness and a thick texture while letting the bright citrus flavor shine.

Ingredients

  • 2 large oranges, peeled and segmented
  • 1 cup plain kefir milk
  • 1 ripe banana, preferably frozen
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely grated orange zest, optional
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon or ginger, optional

Instructions

  1. Peel the oranges and separate them into segments. Remove any seeds and as much thick white pith as practical. If using orange zest, grate it before peeling the orange.
  2. Add the orange segments, kefir milk, banana, and vanilla extract to a blender. Add the optional orange zest, cinnamon, or ginger if desired.
  3. Blend on high for 30 to 60 seconds, or until the orange segments are completely broken down and the smoothie is creamy and uniform.
  4. Taste the smoothie. If additional sweetness is needed, add 1 to 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup and blend again.
  5. For a thicker, colder smoothie, add the ice cubes and blend until smooth. If the smoothie is too thick, add a small splash of additional kefir and blend again.
  6. Pour into glasses and serve immediately, optionally garnished with orange zest or a thin orange slice.

Notes

  • Frozen banana creates a thick, creamy smoothie without diluting the orange flavor with extra ice.
  • For an orange mango variation, blend in about 1 cup fresh or frozen mango.
  • For an orange berry variation, add strawberries, raspberries, or mixed berries.
  • For a banana-free smoothie, replace the banana with frozen mango or additional orange segments.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in a tightly sealed container for up to 1 day. Shake or stir well before drinking.
  • For meal prep, freeze prepared orange segments and banana portions, then blend them with fresh kefir when ready to serve.
