Olive Oil Chocolate Banana Bread is a rich and moist loaf made with ripe bananas, cocoa powder, and smooth olive oil, creating a tender and deeply chocolatey treat perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  3. Add the olive oil, brown sugar, and granulated sugar and mix until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips or chopped nuts if using.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 50–60 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
  10. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best sweetness and flavor.
  • A mild olive oil works best so it does not overpower the chocolate.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the bread tender.
  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze slices for up to 2 months and thaw before serving.
