A savory and comforting mushroom toast featuring sautéed mushrooms layered over crispy golden bread. Perfect for a quick meal or elegant appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme or parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp cream or 1/4 cup grated cheese (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Clean and slice the mushrooms evenly.
  2. Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add mushrooms and cook for 8–10 minutes until they release moisture and begin to brown.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Season with salt, black pepper, and herbs.
  6. Add cream or cheese if desired and stir until combined.
  7. Toast the bread slices until golden and crisp.
  8. Spoon the sautéed mushrooms over the toasted bread.
  9. Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Add a poached or fried egg on top for extra protein.
  • Use sourdough or whole grain bread for more flavor.
  • Include caramelized onions for added sweetness.
  • Top with Parmesan or goat cheese for richness.
