This Monte Cristo Croissant Sandwich is a rich, buttery twist on the classic, featuring flaky croissants filled with ham, turkey, and melted Swiss cheese, then coated in egg and pan-fried until golden. Finished with powdered sugar and served with raspberry jam, it delivers the perfect balance of sweet and savory.

Ingredients

  • 4 large croissants, sliced in half
  • 8 slices deli ham
  • 8 slices deli turkey
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Raspberry jam or strawberry preserves, for serving

Instructions

  1. Slice the croissants in half horizontally.
  2. Layer the ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese inside each croissant and gently close the sandwiches.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, and Dijon mustard if using.
  4. Lightly dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides without soaking the croissants.
  5. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Cook the sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  7. Transfer the sandwiches to serving plates.
  8. Dust lightly with powdered sugar.
  9. Serve warm with raspberry jam or strawberry preserves for dipping.

Notes

  • Swiss cheese is traditional, but Gruyère, provolone, or cheddar are delicious alternatives.
  • Spread honey mustard, mayonnaise, or cream cheese inside the sandwich for extra richness.
  • Blackberry preserves or apricot jam make excellent substitutes for raspberry jam.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in a 325°F (165°C) oven or air fryer for 4–6 minutes until crisp and heated through.
  • Avoid microwaving to preserve the croissant’s flaky texture.
