Mont Blanc coffee pairs bold espresso or strong coffee with a thick, velvety layer of lightly sweetened vanilla cream. Served hot or iced, its snowy cream topping creates an indulgent café-style drink with a beautiful contrast of bitterness and sweetness.

Ingredients

  • Freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • Heavy cream
  • Milk
  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes, for an iced version
  • Cocoa powder, optional
  • Ground cinnamon, optional
  • Pinch of salt, optional

Instructions

  1. Brew fresh espresso or strong coffee.
  2. Combine the cold heavy cream, a splash of milk, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and an optional tiny pinch of salt in a small bowl or jug.
  3. Froth or lightly whip the cream mixture until thick, smooth, and velvety but still pourable. Do not whip it to stiff peaks.
  4. For a hot Mont Blanc coffee, pour the freshly brewed coffee into a serving glass or cup.
  5. For an iced version, fill a tall glass with ice and pour cooled espresso or strong chilled coffee over it.
  6. Slowly spoon or pour the thickened cream over the coffee to create a generous white layer on top.
  7. Finish with an optional light dusting of cocoa powder or ground cinnamon.
  8. Serve immediately and sip through the cream for a combination of bold coffee and creamy topping in each sip.

Notes

  • Strong espresso works particularly well because its concentrated flavor balances the rich cream topping.
  • Keep the heavy cream very cold before whipping or frothing for the best texture.
  • The cream should be thick and velvety but still pourable rather than whipped to stiff peaks.
  • For an iced version, cool the espresso slightly and pour it over plenty of ice before adding the cream.
  • Vanilla syrup, brown sugar syrup, or simple syrup can be added directly to the coffee for extra sweetness.
  • Add cocoa powder or chocolate sauce for a chocolate variation, or caramel syrup and a caramel drizzle for a caramel version.
  • For a chestnut-inspired variation, blend a small amount of sweetened chestnut purée or chestnut syrup into the cream and reduce the added sugar if necessary.
  • A frothable dairy or plant-based alternative can replace the heavy cream, although the topping may be lighter.
  • The cream mixture can be prepared several hours ahead and refrigerated covered; whisk or froth it again just before serving.
  • For the best layered appearance and texture, store the coffee and cream separately and assemble the drink immediately before serving.
