Masters cheese straws are crisp, buttery, and packed with bold cheddar flavor with a hint of spice. These classic Southern snacks are perfect for entertaining or enjoying as a savory treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, finely shredded
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter and shredded cheddar cheese until well combined.
  3. Add flour, salt, cayenne pepper, and paprika, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Pipe thin strips onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and crisp.
  7. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for best results.
  • Chill dough briefly if it becomes too soft.
  • Roll and cut dough if you don’t have a piping bag.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
