Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
4 cups cooked white rice
4 eggs
1 cup beef broth
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
1–2 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)
Instructions
In a bowl, combine ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Form into 4 equal patties.
Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
Add beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
Mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to make a slurry. Add to the skillet and simmer until the gravy thickens.
In a separate pan, fry the eggs sunny-side-up or to your desired doneness.
To assemble, place a scoop of rice on each plate, top with a beef patty, ladle over the brown gravy, and finish with a fried egg.
Garnish with green onions if desired and serve hot.
Notes
Cook patties and gravy ahead of time for quicker assembly later.
Use a fresh egg when serving for the best texture.
For a vegetarian version, use plant-based patties and vegetable broth.
To prevent lumpy gravy, always mix cornstarch with cold water before adding to hot liquids.
Try topping with furikake, avocado, or sriracha for extra flavor.
