Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Mix sugar and lemon zest together for the filling.
  6. Roll the dough into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle evenly with the lemon sugar mixture.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
  9. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  11. Bake for 20–25 minutes until lightly golden.
  12. Whisk together powdered sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest for the glaze.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving.
