A bright, concentrated lemon ginger shot with fresh citrus flavor and a warming ginger kick. These refreshing shots blend together in minutes and can be customized with honey, turmeric, mint, or additional fruit juice.

Ingredients

  • Fresh ginger root
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Cold water
  • Honey or maple syrup, optional
  • Ground turmeric or fresh turmeric, optional
  • Pinch of black pepper, optional

Instructions

  1. Rinse and scrub the fresh ginger thoroughly. Peel if needed, then roughly chop it into small pieces.
  2. Squeeze the lemons and remove any seeds, reserving the fresh lemon juice.
  3. Add the chopped ginger, fresh lemon juice, and cold water to a high-speed blender. Add honey or maple syrup for sweetness if desired, along with optional turmeric and a small pinch of black pepper.
  4. Blend on high until the ginger is very finely processed and the liquid is thoroughly combined.
  5. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or nut milk bag into a clean container. Press or squeeze the pulp to extract as much liquid as possible. Skip straining if a thicker, more fibrous drink is preferred.
  6. Taste a small amount and adjust as needed. Add more water for a milder shot or a little honey or maple syrup to balance excessive tartness.
  7. Transfer to a clean airtight bottle or jar and refrigerate until chilled. Shake well before serving and pour approximately 1–2 ounces per shot.

Notes

  • For a milder shot, reduce the ginger or add additional water, orange juice, or apple juice.
  • For a turmeric variation, blend in fresh or ground turmeric with a tiny pinch of black pepper.
  • Replace some of the water with fresh orange juice for a sweeter citrus variation.
  • Fresh apple or unsweetened apple juice can be added for natural sweetness.
  • Add a very small pinch of cayenne for extra heat or fresh mint leaves for a cooler finish.
  • Store in a clean airtight bottle or jar in the refrigerator and use within 3–4 days for the freshest flavor.
  • Natural separation is normal, so shake the mixture well before each serving.
  • For longer storage, freeze the mixture in ice cube trays and thaw individual portions in the refrigerator as needed.
  • Serve chilled or allow an individual portion to sit briefly at room temperature if desired.
