Lemon Garlic Pasta is a light, fresh, and flavorful dish made with tender pasta, fragrant garlic, bright lemon, and Parmesan cheese. It’s a quick and versatile meal that’s perfect on its own or served alongside your favorite protein or vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces spaghetti, linguine, or your favorite pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup reserved pasta water
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente according to the package directions.
  2. Reserve 1/4 cup of the pasta water before draining the pasta.
  3. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to brown it.
  5. Stir in the lemon zest and lemon juice.
  6. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat.
  7. Gradually stir in the Parmesan cheese and enough reserved pasta water to create a smooth, lightly creamy sauce.
  8. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  9. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
  10. Serve immediately with extra Parmesan cheese and lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice and zest for the brightest flavor.
  • Substitute Pecorino Romano for Parmesan if preferred.
  • Add grilled chicken, shrimp, salmon, or roasted chickpeas for extra protein.
  • Mix in spinach, roasted broccoli, asparagus, or capers for added flavor and texture.
  • Top with toasted pine nuts for extra crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of water, broth, or olive oil to loosen the sauce.
  • Freezing is not recommended, as the fresh lemon flavor is best enjoyed fresh.
