This Jalapeno Garlic Bread combines crusty bread with rich garlic butter, fresh jalapenos, gooey mozzarella, and savory Parmesan. It is an easy, cheesy, and spicy side dish or appetizer that comes together in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 fresh garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 fresh jalapeno peppers, thinly sliced or finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and place both halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Stir until evenly combined.
  4. Spread the garlic butter generously over the cut sides of the bread, taking it all the way to the edges.
  5. Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly over the garlic butter, followed by the Parmesan. Arrange the sliced or chopped jalapenos over the cheese.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted and the edges of the bread are golden and crisp.
  7. For an extra-bubbly and golden topping, broil for an additional 1 to 2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired.
  9. Cut into individual pieces and serve while the bread is warm and the cheese is gooey.

Notes

  • For milder garlic bread, remove the jalapeno seeds and membranes and reduce the amount of pepper used.
  • For extra heat, leave some jalapeno seeds intact or add crushed red pepper flakes or finely chopped serrano pepper.
  • Pickled jalapenos can replace fresh jalapenos. Drain them thoroughly before adding to prevent soggy bread.
  • For extra-cheesy bread, add more mozzarella or use cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Pepper Jack cheese.
  • For a jalapeno-popper variation, mix a little softened cream cheese into the garlic butter.
  • Add a pinch of smoked paprika or use roasted jalapenos for a smokier flavor.
  • The bread can be assembled several hours ahead, covered, refrigerated, and baked shortly before serving.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days or freeze well-wrapped pieces for up to 2 months.
  • Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven or air fryer until hot and crisp and the cheese has melted again.
