Ingredients

  • 12 ounces pasta (penne, rigatoni, or your choice)
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 3 cups broccoli florets

  • 1/2 cup pasta cooking water (reserved)

  3. Add Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up, until browned and fully cooked.
  4. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add broccoli and a splash of water, cover, and steam for 3 to 5 minutes until tender.
  6. Add cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine.
  7. Gradually add reserved pasta water to create a light sauce.
  8. Stir in Parmesan cheese and season with salt and black pepper.
  9. Toss until everything is well combined and heated through.
  10. Serve warm with extra Parmesan if desired.

Notes

  • Use chicken or turkey sausage for a lighter option.
  • Add sun-dried tomatoes or mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Swap broccoli with broccolini or spinach if preferred.
  • For a creamier version, add a splash of cream or ricotta.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice before serving to brighten flavors.
