Ingredients

  • white fish fillets (such as cod or haddock)
  • smoked fish (optional)
  • potatoes
  • milk
  • butter
  • flour
  • onion
  • garlic
  • peas or carrots
  • cheddar cheese (optional)
  • fresh parsley
  • salt
  • black pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop potatoes, boil until tender, then mash with butter and milk.
  2. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  3. Melt butter in a pan and sauté onion until soft, then add garlic.
  4. Stir in flour and cook briefly, then gradually add milk to form a smooth sauce.
  5. Add fish and cook gently until it begins to flake.
