Ingredients

  • 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly.
  2. Add the apples to the Instant Pot.
  3. Stir in the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and water.
  4. Secure the lid and set the Instant Pot to pressure cook on high for 4 minutes.
  5. Allow a quick release once cooking is complete.
  6. Carefully open the lid and stir the apples gently.
  7. If a thicker sauce is desired, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water and stir it into the apples.
  8. Use the sauté setting for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  9. Serve warm as a side dish, dessert topping, or breakfast addition.

Notes

  • Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Golden Delicious apples work especially well.
  • Adjust the brown sugar amount to suit your preferred sweetness.
  • Add chopped pecans, walnuts, raisins, or dried cranberries for extra texture and flavor.
  • Maple syrup can be used instead of brown sugar for a different flavor profile.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Serve with pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, pork chops, or vanilla ice cream.
