Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  3. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly for 30 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden, and caramelized.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Let the onion mixture cool slightly.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  7. Fold in the caramelized onions, mozzarella, Gruyère or Swiss cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased baking dish and sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese over the top.
  9. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired and serve warm with your favorite dippers.

Notes

  • Add cooked, crumbled bacon for a smoky variation.
  • Mix in chopped spinach for added color and nutrition.
  • Use sharp cheddar instead of Gruyère for a bolder cheese flavor.
  • Stir in diced jalapeños or red pepper flakes for extra heat.
  • Add fresh thyme or rosemary for an herby twist.
  • Sprinkle toasted breadcrumbs over the top before baking for a crispy finish.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10 to 15 minutes or microwave individual portions. Stir in a splash of milk or sour cream if needed to restore creaminess.
